. Policemen in Taguig: Gave Pride!
By: Nil-Joei Mateo
Senior Insp. Fernando Lipata, SPO1 Clemente Orpilla and PO2 Sadat Abad, members of the city’s Traffic Enforcement Unit are the three policemen who were very kind and generous for returning back a briefcase that contains money, bank checks and travel documents. The owner of the said briefcase was very thankful to these policemen in Taguig. The owner is an American missionery.
Abad said that he still remembers the reaction of Fr. Dean William when they went to his office at around noon on Dec. 16 , 2011 to return his valuables.
“He hugged us tightly and told his fellow Filipino missionaries that they were wrong to doubt their compatriots,” Abad added in Filipino.
Earlier that day, the three policemen were conducting a routine patrol in Bicutan when they saw a group of street children trying to open something on the sidewalk.
“We drove the children away… and discovered that they were trying to open a briefcase,” Lipata said.
He added that they took the briefcase and when they opened it, they found around P120,000 in cash and several blank checks. They also discovered travel documents, including a US passport issued to William which they used to track him down.
“He told us later when we came to his office that the Filipino missionaries had told him to stop looking for the briefcase because somebody had probably already taken it,” Abad said. “But the priest replied that he had faith in Filipinos, saying they were honest.”
Lipata said that when they found the briefcase, he thought of going to a radio or television station to seek help from the media to track the owner of the briefcase.
William told the policemen that he had placed the briefcase on top of his car and that he forgot all about it as he drove off because he was in a hurry.
The three policemen were honored of doing this. This deed really proves that many Taguigenos were very responsible to their duties and truly a kind-hearted.
